“I am going to have my own show. I was perfectly happy being an IT person, but then I decided I needed to bring underprivileged chimps to a sanctuary… and give them guns. Escape to chimp battle eden.”
I wonder if they would be able to grasp it. Only one way to find out.
On another note I think I should insert another first name infront of the rest of my names: ‘Chimp.’

when you are the owner of a cat, it seems regardless of how often you lint brush yourself you are that person who is walking around with cat hair all over your clothes. it is really tough to be fashionable or attractive when you’re that insane woman [things i can struggle at at the best of times.] i lint brush my new clothes before i leave the house. they look good. i arrive at work, somehow i am covered in hair again. is my cat hiding in my pocket? i lint brush myself when i get to work. surely this will last. there are no cats to be seen, and i have even lint-brushed my chair to take care of those strays i have transported there myself. and yet, not 20 minutes later, i am once again that insane woman. where is that beast lurking?
don’t fight it, don’t even try…. i think i should just make a cardigan with all the matted hair and just embrace it to it’s fullest.

i am very excited right now… i have to make a brochure for a fund raising event for my mom’s organization and i was really not looking forward to using photoshop to do a shitty job, being really annoyed with word 2003, or having to learn corel draw. luckily someone who i am not allowed to talk about is doing something i am not allowed to talk about which involves having to become familiar with office 2007. surprisingly it seems actually pretty sweet. they have a program called publisher with brochure templates… i know that sort of thing is cheating but why do things the hard way when you don’t have to, in this day in age? now this is going to be so easy and not look like crap.

“We found in our study that under certain assumptions by the year 2100, 950 to 1,800 bird species may be imperiled or even driven to extinction by climate change and habitat destruction,” said lead author Walter Jetz of the University of California, Davis. “Most of these species are currently not recognized as imperiled.”
it is sad, but it’s almost not worth commenting on the environment to me, namely the extinction of various species. i know as my mother would say, my defeatist attitude is a large part of the problem. we really CAN make a difference, etc etc. there was a time in my life when i believed this. i was incredibly young and naive however. it seems this world is in such a downward spiral of consumption and destruction that whatever action or action i do not take, or encourage my friends to make, really has no impact. i know what gandhi said, “you must be the change you wish to see in the world.” i know about the hundredth monkey effect*, yet still i feel powerless. maybe this will change as i get older, my apathy will dissolve and i will return to the hopeful yippie mindset i once had. i somehow doubt this, as every new thing i learn about the world only solidifies our ultimate destruction of it.
so i will sit back and watch… keep contributing my $20 a month to the WWF [whoop de doo, that really eases my guilty conscious as a human being] and shed a tear every time i hear of an amazing part of nature that we will never see again on this planet disappears.

can you believe i was in this picture?

we did a far more impressive one years earlier but i can’t find a picture. [it's a tree, which you cant tell, but the other one was larger and more aerial.]
* wiki had some interesting things to say about the hundredth monkey…
An analysis of the appropriate literature by Ron Amundson, published by the Skeptics Society, revealed several key points that demystified the supposed effect. Unsubstantiated claims that there was a sudden and remarkable increase in the proportion of washers in the first population were exaggerations of a much slower, more mundane effect. Rather than all monkeys mysteriously learning the skill it was noted that it was predominantly younger monkeys that learned the skill from the older monkeys through the usual means of imitation; older monkeys who did not know how to wash tended not to learn. As the older monkeys died and younger monkeys were born the proportion of washers naturally increased. The time span between observations were in the order of years. Claims that it spread suddenly to other isolated populations of monkeys ignore the fact at least one washing monkey swam to another population and spent about four years there. It is also to be noted that the sweet potato was not available to the monkeys prior to human intervention: it is not at all surprising that isolated populations of monkeys started to wash potatoes in a similar time frame once they were made available.
It is unwise to be too sure of one’s own wisdom. It is healthy to be reminded that the strongest might weaken and the wisest might err. -Gandhi

you may have read my earlier post regarding nuremberg zoo’s decision not to intervene in the fate of new born polar bear cubs. since that story was reported, vilma, one of the bear mothers, is believed to have eaten her pair of cubs, which polar bears often do when infants are ill.
after seeing vera carrying her cub in her jaws around her enclosure, zoo officials have stepped in and started hand-rearing the baby bear.

source: bbc news.
one of the main reasons i would like to be a celebrity is to play with baby exotic animals, a la weezer’s island in the sun.

unlike international pop superstar knut, the newborn cubs of vera and vilma born a few weeks ago at nuremberg zoo may enjoy a less glamorous polar bear existence. the zoo has said if the new mothers reject their young, they will allow nature to take it’s course, contrary to the actions of the berlin zoo last year with rejected cub knut.
hopefully to rival the funds raised by knut’s publicity and merchandise, this zoo will do itself a favor and sell this year’s most valuable polar bear accessory… tiny polar bear rugs.
i can’t imagine any negative implications to hand-rearing a dangerous animal…

wait… knut… i thought we were friends!
